Light and Bright Kitchen Update

Kitchen Remodel

A Fresh, Airy Space for Modern Living

This kitchen transformation modernized an early 2000s space, creating a brighter, more functional design. The outdated, two-tier boomerang island was replaced with a single-level, squared-off island for improved seating and usability. Thoughtful updates, including fresh white cabinetry, a contrasting island color, new lighting, and refinishing the range hood, elevated the overall aesthetic. Challenges like missing hardwood flooring and a textured hood were skillfully resolved with cost-effective solutions. The result is a stunning, refreshed kitchen that feels more open and inviting. The homeowner was thrilled with the transformation, which exceeded expectations and beautifully enhanced the heart of the home.

Before

Here's a look at this space before the remodel.

The goal of this kitchen renovation was to update the style while enhancing functionality, particularly with the island. The existing island featured an awkward boomerang shape with two different heights—bar and counter. To create a more practical and inviting space, we redesigned it as a single-level, squared-off island, allowing for better seating and usability.

Budget-conscious updates were a priority. To keep costs down, we reused much of the existing cabinetry, refinished the range hood, and painted the wood cabinets white with a contrasting island color. New light fixtures further modernized the space, enhancing both style and brightness.

While most cabinetry was repurposed, we introduced select new elements to improve both aesthetics and function. Our carpenters added paneling and molding details to the island, giving it a more furniture-like appearance that elevated the overall design.

Another challenge was refinishing the existing range hood, which was made of a textured, stucco-like material. Instead of replacing it entirely, we opted for a cost-effective solution: wrapping the mantle portion in wood and painting the upper section. This approach not only modernized the look but also maintained budget-conscious design integrity.

This renovation presented a few key challenges that required creative solutions. One major obstacle was straightening out the island. When the original boomerang-shaped island was removed, we discovered that the hardwood flooring had not been installed underneath, leaving a large patch of missing flooring. The homeowner had only a small amount of extra hardwood available, so our skilled installer carefully blended the new pieces into the existing floor, ensuring a seamless, natural look.
