We recently sat down with Greg and Sharla to hear firsthand about their remodeling experience. What began as a straightforward kitchen upgrade evolved into a thoughtful renovation of the entire first floor and portions of the second.
Their story highlights the planning, craftsmanship, and attention bring dream projects to life and the real impact a thoughtful remodel can have on daily life.
From a Kitchen Update to an Open, Inviting Home
To Greg and Sharla, the project started as a kitchen remodel but quickly expanded as their vision came into focus. They wanted an open, warm, farmhouse-inspired space while preserving function and flow for everyday living. After discussing options and working through design iterations, we moved forward with a plan that opened the main living area and modernized finishes throughout.
"This was a project that started off being solely a kitchen project, and by the time we got done, it had encompassed the entire first floor and a good portion of the second floor." -Greg
Key changes that transformed their home
To create the open, comfortable space the Parkhursts envisioned, we made several structural and finish updates that fundamentally changed how the home feels and functions:
Moved the northern exterior wall out 5½ feet to gain additional living space and improve proportion.
Removed the wall between the dining room and kitchen to create one large, open room for cooking, dining, and gathering.
Reworked the kitchen layout with new cabinetry and surfaces to maximize usability and visual appeal.
Installed a custom black shiplap range hood to anchor the room and support the farmhouse aesthetic.
Selected and installed subway tile backsplash, coordinated grout color, and granite countertops for a cohesive look.
Updated flooring throughout the renovated areas to create a seamless flow and durability.
Made tile installation and specialty finishes suggested during design.
Design, Collaboration, and On-Site Work
Design direction came from our in-house team led by Christian Raab, who worked closely with the homeowners to refine the look and material selections. We helped simplify decisions by presenting coordinated options for cabinets, countertops, tile, grout, and flooring—making it easy for the clients to visualize the final space and choose what felt right for their home.
From the clients' perspective, the on-site experience was just as important as the finished result. And the homeowners appreciated our team’s professionalism, which helped minimize disruption.
"The gentleman from Pinnacle Homes was in our house for five months. They cleaned up every day... very professional and very good-hearted guys." -Sharla
Client Takeaways: What Matters Most
For Greg and Sharla, the most meaningful outcome wasn’t just the finishes or square footage. It was the way the home now feels. The open layout improved the flow and warmth of the main living area, and the finished kitchen fulfilled the design goals they’d hoped for.
"My favorite part of this entire project is just—she's happy. This is what she's wanted. It's warm. It's the flow. It's open, and it's been phenomenal."
